Artists have been performing for the Olympic Opening and Closing Ceremonies for decades, and with artists like Lady Gaga and Celine Dion kicking off the 2024 Paris Olympics, we’re looking back at some of our favorite performances from the past.

Starting off with K-pop boy band XO, who performed during the Closing Ceremony at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, they performed their song “Power.” In 2016 Brazilian superstar Anitta performed during the Rio Olympics Opening Ceremony alongside Brazilian legends Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil. They sang a classic Brazilian song while celebrating the famous Rio Carnival.

The London Summer Olympics in 2012 were packed full of amazing artists during the Opening and Closing ceremonies, from Jessie J to Queen, Sir Paul McCartney, Ed Sheeran, One Direction and the Spice Girls. In 2000 during the Sydney Summer Olympics, Kylie Minogue performed during the Closing Ceremony. The Australian superstar’s cover of ABBA’s “Dancing Queen” was considered a highlight of the night.

And the 2024 Paris Olympics was not the first time Celine Dion has performed at the Games. She also performed during the Opening Ceremony of the 1996 Atlanta Summer Games, singing “The Power of the Dream.”
